Educational Qualifications for UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2025

To be eligible to appear for the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025, candidates must meet the following educational qualification criteria as prescribed by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC):

๐Ÿ”น Minimum Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree:
    Candidates must hold a graduate degree (Bachelor’s degree) from:

    • A Central, State, or Deemed University,

    • A University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India,

    • Or an educational institution declared as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956,

    • Or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of India.

  • Candidates who are in the final year of their graduation or awaiting results can also apply for the Prelims Exam.

  • However, they must produce proof of passing the degree before appearing for the Mains Examination.

  • Candidates with professional or technical degrees (like MBBS, Engineering, CA, CS, ICWA, etc.) recognized by the Government of India are also eligible.

  • Candidates who have obtained their graduate degree from a foreign university must ensure that their qualification is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) or approved by the Government of India as equivalent.
